This rich and creamy homemade ice cream is incredibly easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. It has a smooth vanilla base with beautiful chocolate swirls, just like the one shown in the picture. No ice cream maker is required, making it perfect for beginners.
🥣 Ingredients
Vanilla Ice Cream Base
- 500 ml (2 cups) cold heavy whipping cream (35% fat)
- 1 can (395 g / 14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of salt (optional, enhances flavor)
Chocolate Swirl
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons hot milk
- 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk (optional)
- OR
- 100 g (3.5 oz) melted milk or dark chocolate
👩🍳 Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chocolate Mixture
If using cocoa powder:
- Mix the cocoa powder with the hot milk until smooth.
- Add the condensed milk if desired for extra creaminess.
- Allow it to cool completely.
If using melted chocolate:
- Melt the chocolate and let it cool until slightly warm but still pourable.
Step 2: Whip the Cream
- Pour the cold whipping cream into a large chilled bowl.
- Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed.
- Continue until soft to medium peaks form.
- Do not overwhip or the cream may become grainy.
Step 3: Prepare the Ice Cream Base
- Add the sweetened condensed milk.
- Add the vanilla extract.
- Add the pinch of salt (optional).
- Fold everything together gently using a spatula until smooth.
Step 4: Create the Marble Effect
- Pour a layer of vanilla mixture into your container.
- Spoon small amounts of chocolate mixture over it.
- Repeat the layers until all the mixture is used.
- Use a knife, skewer, or toothpick to gently swirl through the layers.
- Do not overmix—you want visible chocolate ribbons.
Step 5: Freeze
- Cover the container tightly.
- Freeze for 6–8 hours or overnight.
- For the best texture, leave the ice cream at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before scooping.
