π Ingredients
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- Β½ can (200g) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter
- ΒΌ teaspoon salt
- 2β4 tablespoons milk (only if needed)
- 1 tablespoon butter or vegetable oil (for greasing the pan)
Optional
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon sugar (for a sweeter bun)
π©βπ³ Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add the sweetened condensed milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract (if using). Mix with a spoon until a soft dough begins to form.
If the dough seems dry, gradually add the milk, one tablespoon at a time. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in a little extra flour until it’s soft but easy to handle.
Step 2: Knead
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Avoid adding too much flour to keep the buns soft.
Step 3: Shape the Buns
Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
Roll each piece into a smooth ball, then gently flatten into a thick round about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick.
Let the dough rest for 5 minutes before cooking.
Step 4: Cook
Heat a large non-stick skillet over low to medium-low heat and lightly grease it with butter or oil.
Arrange the dough rounds in the skillet, leaving a little space between each one.
Cover with a lid and cook for 5β7 minutes, until the bottoms are golden brown.
Carefully flip each bun, cover again, and cook for another 5β7 minutes until both sides are evenly browned and the centers are fully cooked.
If they brown too quickly, reduce the heat to low.
Step 5: Finish
Transfer the warm buns to a plate and brush them generously with melted butter for an extra-soft texture and beautiful shine.
Serve immediately while warm.
