  • 100 g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 250 ml (1 cup) heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for extra shine)

Step 1 – Prepare the Custard

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together the sugar and cornstarch.
  2. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking until smooth.
  3. If using egg yolks, beat them lightly and whisk them into the mixture.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the custard becomes thick and creamy.
  5. Remove from the heat.
  6. Stir in the butter and vanilla until fully combined.

Step 2 – Assemble

  1. Pour half of the warm custard into a 9Γ—13-inch (23Γ—33 cm) glass dish.
  2. Arrange a single layer of tea biscuits over the custard.
  3. Pour the remaining custard on top.
  4. Smooth the surface with a spatula.
  5. Refrigerate for 30–45 minutes.

Step 3 – Make the Chocolate Ganache

  1. Heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer.
  2. Pour it over the chopped chocolates.
  3. Let stand for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir until smooth and glossy.
  5. Mix in the butter if desired.

Step 4 – Finish

  1. Pour the ganache over the chilled custard.
  2. Spread evenly.
  3. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings.

Step 5 – Chill

  • Refrigerate for 4–6 hours, preferably overnight.
